What is oil-based mud? Oil-based mud, also known as oil-based cuttings, is an oil-in-water emulsion drilling fluid that includes oil as the continuous phase, water (with a volume content of up to 50%) as the dispersed phase, and emulsifiers as stabilizers. It is typically composed of diesel, oxidized asphalt, organic acids, alkalis, and other chemicals.
Compared to water-based drilling fluids, oil-based mud has advantages such as high-temperature resistance, resistance to salt and calcium erosion, good wellbore stability, excellent lubrication, and minimal damage to oil and gas reservoirs. It has become an important method for drilling high-temperature wells, deep wells, and various complex formations. However, the cost of formulation is much higher than that of water-based drilling fluids.
After being processed by a dedicated oil-based mud drilling waste management system, oil-based cuttings can be treated at a rate of 40 tons per hour without the need for any additives. The oil content in the cuttings is controlled at 5%. Achieves drilling waste management.
KOSUN’s oil-based cuttings treatment system, produced by KOSUN Machinery, is applied to the sludge centralized treatment station in Daqing Oilfield, Heilongjiang Province. It is used for the annual treatment of 100,000 cubic meters of oil-based drilling fluid and harmless treatment of drill cuttings. The system is equipped with high-performance equipment, ensuring excellent processing results and achieving the harmless treatment and reduction of waste. The oil content in the treated cuttings is less than 5%.
KOSUN focuses on oil drilling waste management & drilling cuttings management for oil base mud (OMB) and water base mud (WBM). and drilling waste management equipment and system design and manufacture. KOSUN drilling waste management system can recover and treat drilling fluid waste, reducing processing costs and allowing for the recovery of useful mud or water, achieving resource reuse, and avoiding environmental pollution from waste, thus meeting local government regulations on environmentally friendly waste disposal.
