Desilter is the third class solid control equipment to treat the drilling fluids. That is a centrifugal device for removing very fine particles, or silt from drilling fluids to keep the amount of solids in the fluid at the lowest possible point. Usually, the lower the solids content of mud is, the faster the rate of penetration is.
Application: A desilter is used to separate silts from drilling muds. The cut point can be as low as 4“. As muds are being used in drilling operations, they are contaminated with silts. In order to use these muds again, it is necessary to separate silts and also to recycle muds to dispose them at the end of work duty.
Design Principles: KOSUN CNQ series desilter is distinguished with desander according to the size of the cone diameter. Generally, that of the cone of the diameter less than 6″ is called desilter, and used as the third control equipment in drilling operation. We commonly used 5 "and 4" cone to separate solid-phase particle size 15-47μm in the drilling fluid. Desilter cone is different only in size from desander , working principle are exactly the same.
